The importance of celebrating Womens Month Know why you should celebrate Women’s Month, Knowledge is power! 😉
We all know every year in South Africa we celebrate Women’s Month but do we actually know why we do? Here is why…
Every Year in August, our country marks Women’s Month with the aim to pay tribute to over 2000 women who in 1956 August the 9th marched to Union Buildings to protest against the extension of Pass Law to women. The system established to oppress women, control them and even reduce women to passive beings at the mercy of men.
After 24 years of democracy, where all racial and economic discrimination and oppression, sacrifices and resistance of the oppressed people, the struggle itself was terminated, we mark this day, 9th of August as women showed their strength and that they are powerful, that they can lead, fight and challenge situations without fear!
There is a quote I’d like to share with all the women today that says: “A strong woman always knows how to use all her exceptional abilities which no man has: the ability to seem weak and helpless, logic, intuition and emotional connection”.
As a women always have a room for criticism rather embrace it! Of course take it serious but not personal, learn and grow from it. Strong women are fearless they are not afraid of challenges, storms you can name all the hardships, look at the likes of Mama Winnie Madikizela Mandela she was a strong women herself.
Let’s take the initiative in this day 9th and the month of August and celebrate achievements and the important role that women of all races and religion have played and continues to play in our society and always remember this, Wathinta Abafazi Wathinta Imbokodo, a freedom song that means women’s courage and strength.
